Catherine Go Viado. That's the name that appears on my passport, the name I've carried for over three decades.

My Mom told me she actually named me Erlinda and that was the named that appeared in my original birth certificate. Later, just before I went to school, she decided to change it to Catherine. Good thing she did, huh. I think Catherine is better than Erlinda (no offense to Ma'am Linda Alburo, on of my most admired writers :))))

I decided it was time to spread my wings and see how the other side of the world looks like so I made the big move from Cebu, Philippines to Los Angeles, California in December, 2000.

Qualification:

Possess a strong working background in journalism with five solid years of newsroom experience and has the ability to handle multiple tasks and assignments, think creatively, work at a level of extreme detail, and deal with other intricacies of a fast-paced job

Enjoy working with people and have worked closely with Editors and Contributors as well as lead teams of peers --writers, professional art directors, layout artists, illustrators, and photographers-- to produce the weekly children and youth sections of a local daily in one of the fastest growing cities in Southeast Asia

Love the diversity of my subjects and writes in many styles and voices, an ability developed while writing a variety of articles including travel destination stories, the nightlife, restaurant reviews, business and personality profiles for a monthly travel magazine, a weekend Sunday magazine, and for the daily's Lifestyle section

Published Poet. Works appeared in several anthologies including the most recently published poetry anthology "Word for the World" printed by the University of Washington, Seattle, U.S.A. Other poems included in Mantala, a Quarterly Journal of Philippine Literature; Fern Garden, an anthology of Women Writing in the South published by the National Commission on Culture and the Arts Philippines; Centering Voices, an anthology by the Women in Literary Arts, the only women writers group in the Philippines.
 
Fellow/Participant to several writing workshops including the National Writers' Congress sponsored by the Philippine National Commission on Culture and the Arts (Natl. Commission on Literary Arts); British Literary Conference sponsored by the British Council; Seminar Workshop on Creative Writing by the University of San Carlos Graduate School, Philippines; and the country's most prestigious Silliman Writers Workshop, Silliman University in Dumaguete, Philippines.

WORK HISTORY

Freelance Writer. Latest writing assignment: Whip Chain to appear in Inside Kung Fu. Latest article on print:"Drunken Fan, Drunken Fun" came out in the May, 2002 issue of Inside Kung Fu, a monthly martial arts magazine distributed globally with a circulation of 110,000.
